How to Make the Most Out of LinkedIn - The Professionals Network

There are a lot of people who consider LinkedIn to be yet another avenue for spamming people with the latest "craze".  Many people approach me with a so called "great" opportunity, an "opportunity" thinking that they will be the next Google.  It's obvious from the start that it just isn't going to happen. MLM and network marketing have a bad name for the kinds of people who operate them.  They are full of people who think the only way to work is to spam everybody - their friends, family and everyone they come into contact with.  It's just not the right way to work.  I just thought I would write this post to explain the right way to work.

To use LinkedIn properly, you should follow these steps

  1. Connect only with people who you think you can benefit them as much as they can benefit from being connected to you.  If you have a social media business, you should connect with people whose LinkedIn profiles aren't as posh as they deserve.  The chances are that none of this person's social profiles are up to scratch.  You can benefit these people financially, and they can benefit from being you by having a more effective social profile.
  2. When these people reciprocate and connect with you, you need to contact them and ask them if there is any way you can help them in their business.  Be polite, professional and watch your manners.  Let them know that you would like to help them, but don't go on about what you can do to help them.  Invite them to read your profile and if they think that they can benefit from your services - and if they can afford your services, they will contact you.
  3. If they just connect with you, but don't reply to you, just leave it.  Keep making status updates so that they can see you are a professional and that you know what you are doing.  They may need what you have to offer at a later date so make sure the door remains open.
